Keep the original location part of the evidence
A photo is more useful when you know whether the insect was on a mattress seam, bed frame, couch, or floor. Record that location before changing the arrangement. Describe any other physical signs separately, without turning each mark into a confirmed bed bug clue. A safely captured image can support an assessment; handling an unknown insect or dismantling furniture is not necessary just to make the first call.
Ask before carrying items through the house
Bedding, luggage, and upholstered furniture can be difficult to manage when a pest is suspected. Explain what has already moved and ask what should stay in place. Switching sleeping rooms or sending belongings elsewhere may complicate the picture. If the space is rented or shared, identify who can coordinate entry and give consistent instructions to the people who use the resting area.
Understand the actual preparation checklist
Laundry, bagging, furniture access, and room use may be handled differently depending on the assessment and treatment method. Ask which steps apply now and which should wait. Confirm costs, follow-up arrangements, and what evidence to report after work. Avoid discarding a mattress or applying an improvised product because you feel you must do something before an inspection has established what is happening.
